One more time....

The Cubs make their lone trip of the season to Dodger Stadium next week and I was wondering who might be up for a little venture to Chavez Ravine for the Monday night game, April 17th; 7:10pm PST? The tentative pitching matchup is Greg Maddux versus Brett Tomko. Enjoy a little baseball, beverage and world famous "Dodger Dogs", (apparently world famous for their sucktitude). Email me if you're interested, we'll figure out the ticket situation once we know how many people are going. Those who think it's a good idea to leave before the 9th inning need not apply....

What no one wants to talk about Derrek Lee's new 5 year $65 million deal?

Rob...I will let you know soon for sure, but I would love to be there!

actually true dodger die-hards arrive middle of the 3rd and leave after the 7th inning stretch.

What'd I say the other day in parachat? ---- 5 years - $65 mil. No Trade Clause ---- When manny was dooing his (as Mike calls it) nanny nanny boo-boo that Hendry is "dropping the ball" on not signing Lee.

i want all the people walking around humming the "aramis will be mvp" or "aramis will be a candidate for mvp" tune to do me a favor and shut the hell up please, unless you collectively want to be the direct reason his femur snaps in half this year, thank you. i love the guy, but hey, theres a slight chance all your UNFOUNDED PRAISE (whats this all friggin based on anyway? the whole "he's that magical age" bullshit?) is getting to him via his cousin or agent or cleaning lady if he isnt reading it himself and hes feeling unnecessary pressure? and dont ask me why, but i see aram becoming like manny someday. no real reasoning (kind of like all the mvp year talk) but i just got a feeling. as opposed to carlos who is just plain eccentric, i can see aram unexplainedly pulling out a bologna sandwich at 3rd one day and looking confused when the ump confiscates it. call me crazy, but i think he'll hit like manny (great hitter year-in year-out but not the mvp) and act like him too (draw a face on his glove which he talks to between outs).

the praise for Aramis comes from the fact that he hits for good power and strikes out a very relatively small amount for that power. It's the mark of the true great hitters.... His defense isn't very good though, so I doubt he'd ever win the MVP, but who knows. Put up enough offense and the defense will be forgotten.

Gotta beat the traffic...gotta beat the traffic...

Big John Stud: "When manny was dooing his (as Mike calls it) nanny nanny boo-boo that Hendry is "dropping the ball" on not signing Lee." Funny, if I call someone out like this I get blasted, but classless BIG JOHN STUD does and nothing said...CAN YOU SAY DOUBLE STANDARD!!! Oh yeah, good job hendry, now go reup with Baker and then things will be all good.

Rob G: If you plan to go to Petco on May 7, I'll be there!

Haven't decided if I'm going to Petco, a little strapped for funds this year, but if I do, I'll put out another feeler to see if anyone else is interested. Chances are you'll have to entertain my twin daughters though....

LOL I'm guessing they're probably not 18.

"Funny, if I call someone out like this I get blasted, but classless BIG JOHN STUD does and nothing said...CAN YOU SAY DOUBLE STANDARD!!!" I apologize to the moderators for this, but I'm going to be extremely blunt and a bit long winded. Manny, at some point, you just gotta grow up... You just have to get over your victim mentality and the need to prove yourself right over and over again. Manny, I'm sure you are a wonderful person off this site....but I speak for myself when I say I'm absolutely exhausted of your act. I can deal with it on threads...I just ignore it (well, not now)...but on chats I am burnt out, and I get the sense many others are too. It's really like dealing with the 10 year old tattle tale at school who always is running to the teacher to tell who is picking on him. It is really time you start thinking about someone else besides yourself here. Your need to point out and engage every little comment made about you, and try to tell the moderators how to do their job, and try to tell others who they should cold and who they shouldn't is truly nothing more than selfishness. It's the #1 thing I learned in grammar school...the more I responded to the teasers and the bully's the more they picked on me. You had a lot of people come get your back 2 years ago in here...including me. But after watching you make posts like I just quoted literrally 50 times or so...you completely and totally lost me. We aren't out to get you Manny...but when you make it all more difficult for the rest of us to converse here...you are going hear it from people. This site isn't about you, the moderators aren't here for the sole purpose of protecting you. and it certainly isn't about me either. It's about all of us...it's about the community. And calling out every little comment and asking for moderators to play the role of a 3rd grade teacher, brings the whole board down. Keep up your "IN DUSTY WE TRUSTY" if you wish...that's part of your persona...but posts like this here...need to end, immediately. I'm not a super regular here who tosses things around with you often...so I'm hoping this may actually serve to shake you a little...and if it doesn't...oh well. I won't bother calling things like this out again.

Oh yeah, good job hendry, now go reup with Baker and then things will be all good. Wait a sec, Manny, you want Baker extended before the Cubs make the playoffs? What happened to your wait-and-see approach? Are your true colors shining forth?

Manny, in all seriousness (unlike my previous post), listen to Blockhead. I couldn't have said it better myself. I hope you read it even if you don't respond.

Rob...I can't make it. I have to pick my wife up at the airport that night. :(

Tell her to take a cab..... Come on the Cubs are in town once a year.... just kidding....we'll have a drink for you.

I saw a game at Chavez a few years ago when in town. Houston was in town and Jose Lima was pitching. It was good seeing Houston get beat. Great place to watch a game. Hot dogs were nothing special though, but maybe I wasn't drunk enough.

Me Trusty in Dusty too. Im going to order me some of those tea tree toothpicks today. Dusty isnt so bad. He is just misunderstood.

Hopefully he'll be back on the 30th. I have tix to that game.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT EAT THE HOT DOGS AT DODGER STADIUM. PLEASE TRUST ME ON THIS ;)

THere used to be a place in Irvine called "Chicago Chicago Pizza" that was owned by a guy from Arlington Heights. He had fantastic deep dish and stuffed pizza, Vienna Beef hotdogs and beef sandwiches, and the Cubs, Sox, Bears and Hawks on tv all the time. And Old Style on tap. Great place. Check it out.

    One more thing...

One of the reasons I come to this site...

...in addition to Arizona Phil, who is, as we all know, a treasure trove of well-written fresh information, honest evaluation, and sneaky-subtle humor regarding the entire Cub organization...

... is CubbyBlue and Tim's fantastic and timely visual takes on the Cubs (to be fair, he does have a much broader Chicago-flavored brush well beyond the Cubs).  Thanks for so many memorable images.  I am fortunate to own (one of my prize possessions) a print that I framed (55/200) of "The Last Out" with KB's shit-eating grin as he fields the series winning out of the 2016 WS.

Tim, will you visit me if I do the text security thingy and description: Tim S? Or will I find myself in a Cub detention cell.

i.e. "or send a text message to 773-839-**** with the keyword "Friendly" and include your seat location and a description of your issue.

Incredible moment. Huge part of the fun of working there is when something magic like that happens, and you get to interact with baseball fans.

That bear hug was indeed awesome. Word is that Dansby has become an outstanding clubhouse leader and that moment really demonstrated it. That reaction was one of a proud coach/mentor who’s student just excelled. I’m not even sure who was more overjoyed, Dansby or PCA. A veteran expressing that kind of unabashed support and enthusiasm for a struggling rookie is beyond fantastic to see.

BAHAHA! I've actually not seen a single fight, but can't wait to see 70 degrees for sure!

next time i roll up into wrigley i'll try to start a fist fight and maybe we'll meet.

be prepared.  i'm gonna make you earn your money.

seriously, though...that's a cool as hell "retirement" assignment.  i imagine it will be better with warmer nights.

I was there for the PCA homer as well. 50 degree baseball is no longer fun when sitting in the shade (knit hats, scarves and gloves are football gear) but I agree it’s one of those really cool moments. I loved the bear hug given by Swanson at home plate and of course the added impact that the PCA homer became a game winner.

In honor of dispatching with the Astros, this painting is titled “The Sweep”.
I retired a couple years ago, and took a job at Wrigley as a security guy. SO cool having Wrigley as your office. SO cool being there when PCA got his first hit.
“The Sweep” happens at the end of every game - the security staff sweeps through the ballpark making sure it’s empty.
(Hopefully I’ll be putting this painting up often this year.)
Lastly, because working for the Cubs, they understandably don’t want you voicing opinions on social, which is why I’m only painting the banners here.

Honorable mention to Jim Bullinger via BleedCubbieBlue:

Bullinger, a converted shortstop, had pitched in three games before he came to the plate. He had entered the game to relieve starter Shawn Boskie after four innings, and came to the plate to lead off the fifth, and hit Rheal Cormier's first pitch over the left-field wall to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead; they eventually won the game 5-2 in 14 innings. Of the 129players to homer in their first MLB at-bat, Bullinger is one of just 32 to hit that blast on the first big-league pitch he saw (including Contreras) and one of just six pitchers to do so.

Most of this activity will lead nowhere, of course, but it is fantastic that they’re looking for talent in every nook and cranny. You never know where that can lead, and virtually nothing is lost if if leads nowhere, as long as no one of superior talent and potential is losing an opportunity.
