One more time....

The Cubs make their lone trip of the season to Dodger Stadium next week and I was wondering who might be up for a little venture to Chavez Ravine for the Monday night game, April 17th; 7:10pm PST? The tentative pitching matchup is Greg Maddux versus Brett Tomko. Enjoy a little baseball, beverage and world famous "Dodger Dogs", (apparently world famous for their sucktitude). Email me if you're interested, we'll figure out the ticket situation once we know how many people are going. Those who think it's a good idea to leave before the 9th inning need not apply....

i want all the people walking around humming the "aramis will be mvp" or "aramis will be a candidate for mvp" tune to do me a favor and shut the hell up please, unless you collectively want to be the direct reason his femur snaps in half this year, thank you. i love the guy, but hey, theres a slight chance all your UNFOUNDED PRAISE (whats this all friggin based on anyway? the whole "he's that magical age" bullshit?) is getting to him via his cousin or agent or cleaning lady if he isnt reading it himself and hes feeling unnecessary pressure? and dont ask me why, but i see aram becoming like manny someday. no real reasoning (kind of like all the mvp year talk) but i just got a feeling. as opposed to carlos who is just plain eccentric, i can see aram unexplainedly pulling out a bologna sandwich at 3rd one day and looking confused when the ump confiscates it. call me crazy, but i think he'll hit like manny (great hitter year-in year-out but not the mvp) and act like him too (draw a face on his glove which he talks to between outs).

the praise for Aramis comes from the fact that he hits for good power and strikes out a very relatively small amount for that power. It's the mark of the true great hitters.... His defense isn't very good though, so I doubt he'd ever win the MVP, but who knows. Put up enough offense and the defense will be forgotten.

Manny, at some point, you just gotta grow up... You just have to get over your victim mentality and the need to prove yourself right over and over again. Manny, I'm sure you are a wonderful person off this site....but I speak for myself when I say I'm absolutely exhausted of your act. I can deal with it on threads...I just ignore it (well, not now)...but on chats I am burnt out, and I get the sense many others are too. It's really like dealing with the 10 year old tattle tale at school who always is running to the teacher to tell who is picking on him. It is really time you start thinking about someone else besides yourself here. Your need to point out and engage every little comment made about you, and try to tell the moderators how to do their job, and try to tell others who they should cold and who they shouldn't is truly nothing more than selfishness. It's the #1 thing I learned in grammar school...the more I responded to the teasers and the bully's the more they picked on me. You had a lot of people come get your back 2 years ago in here...including me. But after watching you make posts like I just quoted literrally 50 times or so...you completely and totally lost me. We aren't out to get you Manny...but when you make it all more difficult for the rest of us to converse here...you are going hear it from people. This site isn't about you, the moderators aren't here for the sole purpose of protecting you. and it certainly isn't about me either. It's about all of us...it's about the community. I saw a game at Chavez a few years ago when in town. Houston was in town and Jose Lima was pitching. It was good seeing Houston get beat. Great place to watch a game. Hot dogs were nothing special though, but maybe I wasn't drunk enough.

THere used to be a place in Irvine called "Chicago Chicago Pizza" that was owned by a guy from Arlington Heights. He had fantastic deep dish and stuffed pizza, Vienna Beef hotdogs and beef sandwiches, and the Cubs, Sox, Bears and Hawks on tv all the time. And Old Style on tap. Great place. Check it out.

    No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.

    The Savannah Bananas will be playing the Party Animals at Sloan Park in Mesa this coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The games are sold out (15,000+ each night), and berm tickets are going for well over $100.

    RAISIN: In the game versus the A's at Fitch Park last Friday, Mule threw half FB and half SL (16/16), and one CH (which coincidentally was the only hard-hit ball off him -- a near HR line-drive double off the LF fence). FB was 91-94 and the SL (really more of a "slurve") was 80-82, and he got three swing & miss on each pitch (six swing & miss total out of his 20 strikes). So I think it is safe to say that right now, Mule is strictly a two-pitch pitcher (FB/SL),

    Recalled it was sampled in a Nas song.  Did a little sleuthing.  It was a Nas song called "Hate Me Now" that featured Puff Daddy.  Imploring the crowd to hate somebody seems a bit overly dramatic for a keyboardist but perhaps there is some other connection to the song. 

     

    In general there has been a weird overuse of Carmina Burana's O Fortuna in sports and commercials in past decade or so.  Maybe it is a fallback choice if there isn't anything else.   

     

    Sidenote, while the O Fortuna part has become a bit pop-culture cliched; the overall piece is very interesting and rather expansive in scope. I played percussion in a production of it while in college.  There is a rather jovial movement set in a tavern.  In the score it calls for the clinking of beer steins.  Let's just say we did a lot of research to determine the best sounding beer steins.

    who was AB when it was being played?  it could be something as corny as playing it for nick fortes because fortes/fortuna...fortes...marlins...fish...tuna...sigh.

    while the cubs organ player isn't a frequent groaner weaponizing the organ song selection, they all dabble in it.

    in the shortened 2020 season hendricks threw 81.1ip for 26 earned runs.

    in 2024 hendricks has thrown 21ip for 28 earned runs.
