Save the Wrigley Name from Those Corporate Jackals, Sort Of

When NASCAR's Robby Gordon runs at the Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, the hood of his car will bear the Web address, SaveOurName.com. The site is a collection point for signatures from Cub fans who want to send a "message to the (Cubs') owners: Don’t sell the name. It’s wrong. It’s selfish. And we won’t stand for it."

By "we," the site's operator presumably means tradition-loving Cubs fans...and everyone at Deerfield,Illinois-based Jim Beam Brands Co., who created the site as part of an ad campaign.

If the Cubs were just now getting around to installing lights, I imagine Chicagoans United for Baseball in the Sunshine would be underwritten by Coppertone.

Grassroots movements just ain't what they used to be.

meh, let them call it Depends Undergarment Field for all i care. zell's "job" is to do all those little ugly things to stuff he snaps up so he can pass on the product to its new owner without the new guy sharing the burden. it's part of why so many people hate the guy. as of now i got no complaints about the guy. he's been pretty damn hands-off while trying to take care of the trib's larger holdings. i understand why some people wanna keep it...the neighborhood's name and tradition...the "feel"...etc. i'm just one of those people that dont care about that kinda stuff, though.

Irony being that NASCAR is the embodiment of selling every surface you have in some sort of capitalist circus. I'm a big fan of capitalism and all that, I'm just saying... And... effing Brewers. Up 4-2 on Cincy.

watching the CIN/MIL game...nothing special going on, etc... but wow...this crowd...wow. the fans are there and they are in full-team support. they are making an UNREAL amount of noise...the kind where the announcers have to scream into the mic over a crowd when a big play is unfolding. its damn exciting stuff. congrats miluakee...now lose the damn game.

I see that the TCR Depth Chart has been updated to: 1) list Rich Harden as our #1 starter (could we at least make Z a co #1?) 2) welcome Chad Gaudin to our bullpen 3) replace Michael Wuertz w/ Kevin Hart 4) showcase Eric Patterson as our starting LF (woot! go Eric)

I wanted to give Z the extra motivation by naming Harden the #1.

Missed LF somehow and Reed Johnson's come back....

Gallagher's first win with the A's coming at the expense of Angels' starter (and Ex-Cub prospect) Jon Garland. July 29th will be the 10 year anniversary of the Karchner-for-Garland trade (thank you Ed Lynch!) Stevie Eyre pitches 1IP for Peoria yesterday: 2H, 1ER, 0BB, 1K.

They didn't show any replays of it, but you could kinda tell it was bad by the way everybody reacted. I think Len said something to effect of "I hope that hit an empty seat from the noise it made" Um, apparently not.

Dionisio Muyco (3-1, 2 saves, 1.93 ERA) our latest catcher--->pitcher project, is rocketing through the system. Promoted from Boise to Peoria after appearing in 4 games, he closed the game July 10 pitching a perfect ninth to pick up his second save.

I see Yosh still has a sense of history, Harden wearing number 40.

    I’m at the game—woot!

If the streak breaks, it’s not my fault.

Brewers lose Wade Miley to Tommy John surgery.

25 games played with a -85 run differential.  insane.

White Sox DFA Bailey Horn. I'm thinking the Cubs would love to get him back although they probably won't have a decent chance of claiming him without another swap.

WSox also call up former Cub Rafael Ortega (and additionally Tommy Pham). They are hurting and having a gawd awful April.

    White Sox DFA'd Bailey Horn.

He wasn't producing good results in Charlotte (AAA).

But Jed might bring him back with that open 40man spot. Then try the "sneak him thru waivers" gambit.

Oh my, now I will have nightmares of me sitting in the bowels of the Wrigley security detention cell.

    One more thing...

One of the reasons I come to this site...

...in addition to Arizona Phil, who is, as we all know, a treasure trove of well-written fresh information, honest evaluation, and sneaky-subtle humor regarding the entire Cub organization...

... is CubbyBlue and Tim's fantastic and timely visual takes on the Cubs (to be fair, he does have a much broader Chicago-flavored brush well beyond the Cubs).  Thanks for so many memorable images.  I am fortunate to own (one of my prize possessions) a print that I framed (55/200) of "The Last Out" with KB's shit-eating grin as he fields the series winning out of the 2016 WS.

Tim, will you visit me if I do the text security thingy and description: Tim S? Or will I find myself in a Cub detention cell.

i.e. "or send a text message to 773-839-**** with the keyword "Friendly" and include your seat location and a description of your issue.

Incredible moment. Huge part of the fun of working there is when something magic like that happens, and you get to interact with baseball fans.

That bear hug was indeed awesome. Word is that Dansby has become an outstanding clubhouse leader and that moment really demonstrated it. That reaction was one of a proud coach/mentor who’s student just excelled. I’m not even sure who was more overjoyed, Dansby or PCA. A veteran expressing that kind of unabashed support and enthusiasm for a struggling rookie is beyond fantastic to see.

BAHAHA! I've actually not seen a single fight, but can't wait to see 70 degrees for sure!
