Matt Garza, and if innings were dogs.

Man, life ain't fair.
Oh wait, this isn't life, it's the Cubs.
Which is worse.
Matt Garza gives up a first inning run, then shuts down the Houston Astros all the way til Carlos Lee comes up with 2 outs and a man on in the top of the 9th.
Ding.
Ties it up, ruins Garza's day.
He finishes all 9, but it's not til the 12th that the Cubs can get another run and beat the worst team by FAR in all of baseball.
If the Cubs pull out a win today, it'll be Houston's 100th loss.
They're 36 and a half out.
They have 8 more losses than the 2nd worse team in baseball, the Minnesota Twins.

Ah, but today the Cubs have to trot out Rodrigo Lopez.
I believe Rodrigo averages about 5 innings a game, yet somehow he's got 5 wins to go with the 6 losses, and every time I see him in a game I...

You know what?
Nevermind.
Beating a dead horse.

But I hope the dog thing gets you at least a tiny laugh.

every day lahair does something is another day soriano playing for someone else becomes more likely... it won't be a pretty trade...hopefully they'll suck it up rather than taking on a useless crap-ball pitcher and pretending he needs to get starts. at least they cut their last one in spring rather than pretending they needed to keep him on in 2011...even if it ultimately didn't matter. can they shift both Z and soriano, though? hell of an offseason task for a new GM.

It makes sense the same way it makes sense that Ricketts keeps his squash partner, Crane Kenney, on the payroll. I wish I could trust the Ricketts family to make good decisions. Meanwhile, I'm gonna stick with the Mayan calendar predicitions. Cubs in 2012!

Submitted by Old and Blue on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 5:05pm. Lahair is fun to watch. The usual pitching adjustment may not come this year. Just not enough time. =========================== O&B: With all the time LaHair has spent in the minors, he's not exactly an unknown to the pitchers around the National League. Many of them probably faced him while coming up through the minors. The league making an adjustment to the player and then the player having to adjust back applies more to younger players with minimal minor league experience than it would to somebody like LaHair.

Quade in postgame interview said he's playing the kids sunday. not sure what that means other than giving Soriano and Aaram the day off...I hate the lineups that have Baker batting 4th.

they might not want to start the clock on brown and give us wesn.  hopefully it won't come to that.

    madrigal ground rule double!

he blows a play and hits a double.  we're getting bizarro madrigal.

Close up video shows Steele saying to the Trainer "no it just cramped up"

    Hope so

Ben Brown and not Smyly please

    agreed and agreed.

he walked off on his own, but we may not find out for a few days how this will impact the club.

Looked like a hamstring rather than a knee, not sure if that’s better or worse.

steele leaves the game with a hamstring or knee injury.  sigh.

...and a madrigal "non-error" leads to a sac fly for a tie game.  nice.

having a ball clank off your glove, but still getting it count as a hit because it was hit hard is a nice stats gift.

For sure. This lineup isn’t exactly stacked as is, and subbing out a Cooper or even a Tauchman for Madrigal won’t do it any favors.

the ESPN bottom graphic taking up 1/8th of the screen sucks.

i only use ESPN during baseball season and i'm forced to watch a baseball broadcast designed to be broadcast in sports bars and betting parlors where the news/scores of other games is as important as what you're actually tuned in to watch.
