Jefferson Rojas Doubles His Pleasure at Sloan Park

Jefferson Rojas lined an RBI double off the LF fence and scored a run in the bottom of the 1st inning, drilled another RBI double off the LF fence in the 2nd, looped a double down the RF line in the 4th, and (for dessert) lofted a sacrifice fly to the warning track in RF in the 6th, Anderson Suriel singled twice, stole four bases, and scored two runs, and Ke'Shun Collier singled, walked twice, stole two bases, and scored two runs (but unfortunately also made the final out of the game when he was thrown out trying to steal 3rd base), but it just wasn't enough as Junior Franco belted a bases-loaded bases-clearing triple, Johan Benitez singled twice, drew a walk with the bases loaded to force-in a run, and collected another RBI with a sacrifice fly, Moises Alcala singled twice, walked, and scored three runs, and Jose Fernandez singled twice, walked twice, and scored a run, as the Diamondbacks Black squad outlasted the Cubs 10-7 in a Cactus League Extended Spring Training game played Thursday afternoon at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ.

The game was called after six innings of play.

Cubster, Santo’s interview w/ “Tony Twelve” is a favorite memory (of his broadcasting “career”) 😆

Okay, now looks to be the 3rd straight game Crow-Armstrong is not in the Smokies lineup............

Very well played game all around tonight.

best starter and 2 top hitters from the team gone...and they keep on winning.

little ahead of myself here, but the RSox got 9 outs to find 6+ runs.

Richard Gallardo just left the Smokies game with an arm injury after going to the ground following a pitch. Doesn’t sound good at all.

Phil, do you think Wiggins will start out in ACL?

The level of conversation on this site is intelligent, reasoned and informative. Miles ahead of other Cub sites.

Prior to the Cactus League game at Papago Park, three Cubs pitchers threw "live" BP on Field 1 at the Cubs Sloan Park complex, including RHRP Ethan Roberts (June 2022 TJS) and Cubs 2023 2nd round draft pick RHP Jaxon Wiggins (February 2023 TJS).

Wiggins last threw "live" BP three weeks ago before being shut down for a couple of weeks, and this was the first time Roberts has thrown to hitters in almost two years.
