I'm not sure Twitter is for me

The other day, one of the guys sent out an e-mail to all the other writers at TCR. He mentioned that he had setup something called Twitter. I have heard of it and seen people around me using it, but I've decided that I'm sticking to Facebook. There is something magical about being able to endulge in something that would probably be considered a high school website and get so addicted to it that you find your grandma wants to be your "friend". That being said, I put the twitter out of my mind until I saw this:

WITH a cry of "holy f**king s**t", a US man is believed to have made history by "Tweeting" the aftermath of a plane crash just moments after the accident.

Twitter (http://www.twitter.com) user Mike Wilson was on board the Continental Airline’s 737 in Denver, in the US mid-west, when it slid off the runway during take-off yesterday.

At least 58 people were injured after the Texas-bound plane slid off the runway – sheering its landing gear – and dropped into a 12m ravine.

A fire then broke out, damaging the entire right side.

Just moments after the plane came to a rest, Mr Wilson used his mobile phone to send a message to all of his Twitter followers: "Holy f**king s**t - I was just in a plane crash!”~ (View Full Story)

Since there is no news, I thought maybe I'd tie this into the Cubs is some sort of way. It's obvious that this Mike Wilson cat is addicted to twitter. I liken it to the addiction that we have with the Cubs. The other day I see AZ Phil's post about a new minor league coach with the name Pevey and I got excited. We're so thirsty for news that, in a sense, we're just waiting to swallow the first bit of news that comes over the wire. Things like twitter make that happen. It's there you get nuggets that say someone just saw Ryan Dempster running or Lou Piniella in Nordstoms with his shirt off and rumors begin to fly. "Is Ryan Dempster training for a marathon?" "Is Lou Piniella secretly a gay pole dancer?" Is that a good thing? I'm not sure. It certainly makes for an interesting transition to the new way news and media is reported.

I'm not sure when, or if, I'll rock the twitter. What I do know is that I won't be doing it as a plane is crashing, unless of course that plane is carrying me back home from a Cubs World Series.

...and I'm sure investigators documentation now and will find this Mike Wilson at fault by interfering with the electronic instrumentation on the aircraft. Headlines? "Twitter leads to life sentence" of course he might be dead which implies his life sentence might be short.

"What I do know is that I won't be doing it as a plane is crashing, unless of course that plane is carrying me back home from a Cubs World Series. " A plane made of snow, landing in Hell?

Just a thought... The Yanks now desperately need to unload Nick Swisher, who is a switch-hitter and hits better from the left side. 2008 was clearly an aberration, as he is a legitmate 25-30 HR/.380 OBP guy. He is owed $5.3 million for 2009, with another $15.75 guaranteed through 2011. There is an additional $1 million buy-out for 2012. Instead of signing Bradley for 3/$30 and eating 50% of Marquis salary in a lousy salary dump deal, he trades Marquis straight up for Swisher. By doing so, he'd get his RF bat, and has an extra $4.5 million to spend on his 2009 team. He'd also have Swisher for the equivalent of 3/$12.175 (or $4 million per year), which would be quite a bargain. Swisher can play all 3 OF positions if needed, and plays a nice 1B too, making him a versatile player for Lou. He is also one of the best character guys in all of baseball, unlike Bradley. Hendry, for once, can buy low and sell high.

That seems to ring true, crunch. I was afraid of what the Yanks might do as I updated the 2008 roster of my baseball video game to reflect FAs and NTFAs. If nothing else, the Yanks shouldn't be competition for Abreu, which is nice.

I think Nick Swisher is Adam Dunn with less power. Also cost less so who knows. I wouldn't mind Xavier Nady for RF. I wonder how high the Yanks are on him? But i wouldn't mind one of the group of Nady, Swisher, Matsui, or Damon. Think we can convince them to swap one of them for Marquis? LoL. I can dream.

Mets and Lowe are now deep into talks... Angels GM said there's no way in hell Manny Ramirez will be an Angel.

I always liked the way Damon played...Great idea, Swisher for Marquis. As for Matsui, I don't understand why Soriano couldn't play right. His arm is his greatest defensive asset. Playing Soriano in right would give us several more options-Dunn,etc..

Taken from MLBTradeRumors: Per Joel Sherman, the Yankees -- "He says they'll now attempt to trade one of Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Xavier Nady, and Nick Swisher." Awesome news. Nady? Swisher? Matsui? Suddenly, a whole new market for OF opens up.

Maybe Gorilla Matsui would help Fukkake break out of his funk. Question is, can Matsui play the OF anymore with his creaky knees? If he can, there's nothing wrong with his consistent 120 OPS+ in the OF. Swisher, OTOH, can play some CF if you needed him to, as well as some 1B. A more flexible option. He damn near grew up at Wrigley Field with his Dad, so maybe he'd like to play for the Cubs. I think I'd rather take a chance on Swisher than Milton Bradley's injury history. There's no way the Yanks will move X Nady though, they need that guy for corner OF.

Of course, Matsui has been banged up 2 of the last 3 seasons, and is 34...and prolly needs 20-40 games at DH to rest those creaky knees.

If the Cubs weren't really in on Swisher for the price on him in the first trade, why are they in on him now? Because free agent prices are up? Because they can trade with the Yankees instead of the White Sox? I'd love to get Swisher on the cheap.

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.

I wanted Almonte gone last week, but that was before Merryweather went down and Little got demoted. Almonte in his last 5 appearances has gone 4.1 IP with no ER or Runs. NO hits, 3 BBs and 8 SO. He did hit 96 with his 2S FB in AZ on Tues.
I don't see Jed waiving him when we have injuries all over and guys with options that can be sent down.
I probably won't like the move Jed makes, but he can't play the "let's hope no one wants his 1.7mil remaining deal and we can hide him in Iowa" card.
That's why I think the current Bullpen stays as is and Wicks goes to Iowa.
I don't like that, but that's the fix I see.
    We'll find out soon enough!!!
