Johnson struck out just 3 in last night's poll, with the majority picking 7-10 K's for him.

Iowa @Albuquerque (Dodgers): Jay Jackson vs. Nieve.

Tennessee @ Huntsville (Brewers) in a doubleheader: Dallas Beeler vs. Anundsen; Dae-Eun Rhee vs. ????.

Daytona has the day off.

@Peoria vs. Cedar Rapids (Angels): Jose Rosario vs. Crowley

I love the poll. This is the first season in quite awhile I've been following the minors more closely than the majors, and not only because of the obvious fact that they are so close in skill levels.

until Friday with a hamstring injury, fwiw.

Why are we seeing so much Johnson? This is the problem with having Mather, Johnson, and Baker all on the team--the manager thinks he has to bench DeJesus an LaHair every time there is a lefty starting because what's the point of having shortside platoon guys if you aren't going to use them? Somebody please come calling for Baker soon.

if they were gonna platoon lahair (which seems to be what they're doing) it wouldn't have been too hard to find a cheap bench/1st-platoon guy beyond baker...especially since they re-up'd dewitt and baker rather than cutting one of them. 4ab 0h 0bb 3k vs. lefties for lahair...dunno how many chances he'll get this year vs. them. maybe it only came apparent this spring that's something they'd have to do...no idea...

end of the 4th going well.... with 2 out, Stanton singles, Gaby gets on when Stewart can't barehand a ball, Garza strikes out Buck but ump calls it a ball (replays and WGN K-zone show it right down the middle near bottom of zone but clearly a strike). ends it by striking out Murphy who had HR'd earlier.

Byrd makes a great effort to cutoff a ball from going to the wall, then negates great effort by 3-hopping throw to the cutoff man so Stanton scores easily from first.

solid effort by Soriano as always...groundball through SS and 3rd, man on second pauses to make sure ball goes through and Murphy just runs all the way to 2b cause Soriano isn't paying attention. Then Buehrle singles off Lendy.

Good thing the "taxpayers" are enjoying their new ballpark, even though the Cubs drew more than 8K more last Wednesday night to watch the shitty ass Cubs in that cold ass ballpark.

Phil: Great to see what Rosario is doing!

Do you think having Rosario may have influenced/impacted the front office's decision on including Hope in the trade for Busch at all?

it's so crazy we got a new "barnstorming" harlem globetrotters-type baseball product that was introduced less than 5 years ago and is wildly popular all over the nation.

a notion left long in the past, unearthed, polished for modern audiences and popular as ever.

No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.

The Savannah Bananas will be playing the Party Animals at Sloan Park in Mesa this coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The games are sold out (15,000+ each night), and berm tickets are going for well over $100.

RAISIN: In the game versus the A's at Fitch Park last Friday, Mule threw half FB and half SL (16/16), and one CH (which coincidentally was the only hard-hit ball off him -- a near HR line-drive double off the LF fence). FB was 91-94 and the SL (really more of a "slurve") was 80-82, and he got three swing & miss on each pitch (six swing & miss total out of his 20 strikes). So I think it is safe to say that right now, Mule is strictly a two-pitch pitcher (FB/SL),

Recalled it was sampled in a Nas song.  Did a little sleuthing.  It was a Nas song called "Hate Me Now" that featured Puff Daddy.  Imploring the crowd to hate somebody seems a bit overly dramatic for a keyboardist but perhaps there is some other connection to the song.

In general there has been a weird overuse of Carmina Burana's O Fortuna in sports and commercials in past decade or so.  Maybe it is a fallback choice if there isn't anything else.

Sidenote, while the O Fortuna part has become a bit pop-culture cliched; the overall piece is very interesting and rather expansive in scope. I played percussion in a production of it while in college.  There is a rather jovial movement set in a tavern.  In the score it calls for the clinking of beer steins.  Let's just say we did a lot of research to determine the best sounding beer steins.

ooof...this is just as likely as anything.  professional organists are weird humans.

Maybe it is only played when the hitter thus far in the game is "oh for two"-na at the plate?

who was AB when it was being played?  it could be something as corny as playing it for nick fortes because fortes/fortuna...fortes...marlins...fish...tuna...sigh.

while the cubs organ player isn't a frequent groaner weaponizing the organ song selection, they all dabble in it.
