Once again we piggyback on MLB.com's Free Agent Frenzy contest. MLB picks the 15 free agents, you pick the team and then rank them by confidence levels, 15 being the most confident, 1 being the least confident. The submission form is after the jump, otherwise you can follow this link. Be sure to include your name on the bottom and include your email if you want me to contact you directly and don't check the site all the time. The form will not check for duplicate confidence value points, so please check your work (I recommend writing them down first). Entries will be closed on November 23rd at 4pm CST like the official contest OR when the first free agent from the list signs. Whichever comes first. Good luck.

When are you going to close entries? Last year I submitted too early and was at a disadvantage when a few guys signed/got ready to sign.

I added it to the post, either Nov. 23rd like the official contest or once the first free agent signs, whichever comes first....

-edit- actually if a free agent signs early, presumably with his current team, I'll just eliminate them. If someone already put their picks in and had the correct signing, I'll count it, but otherwise they won't count.

Bay Yankees - Think the Yankees are going to replace Matsui with a RH bat Bedard Houston - Typical Astros in denial move Branyan Seattle - Everyone seemed happy last year Chapman Nationals - In theory could set up a killer rotation with Strasberg and... that other guy they have Damon Yankees - Move over to DH and bat #1 or #2 like this year - good feeling re-sign DeRosa Twins - Seems like a Twins type of guy Dye Oakland - Annual 1-year make good DH guy Figgins Angels - Feel good resign Guerrero Angels - Feel good resign Harden Boston - The Penny/Smoltz deal for 2010 Holliday Boston - Better than Bay for same price Lackey Dodgers - Looking for a playoff ace Matsui Seattle - Replace Griffey and make Seattle the go to team for Japananese fans Tejada Astros - To play 3rd, another denial signing Valverde Atlanta - Total guess, my 1 point pick... I've got Bedard going to Philly for that "other starter" they needed to keep up with the spankees. Having said that I strongly considered Houston, I think you're probably dead on. Don't think the Nats will drop the $$ for Chapman. I thought I was being creative/original with Lackey to LAD. Oh well. Valverde was my wild card too, I've got him going to the south side. I love this crap.

I'm thinking the Dodgers won't be spending big money on free agents this year, but then again they have something crazy like 16 free agents, so I guess they will be spending a lot of money just to have a roster. Some of these guys it's hard to figure out where they'll go since their agents, mostly Boras, are saying they're worth long term deals at outrageous prices. I don't see most teams signing guys like that. I think some idiot teams give Holliday and probably Lackey and perhaps Bay some big bucks, but the rest of the free agents will be taking shorter deals like last year at reduced prices. If I were the Cubs I would try and get in on the bargains this time. I know Orlando Hudson dropped off in production and actually got benched at the end of the season, but you can't tell me Fontenot/Miles/Baker is a better combo. Same thing with Johnny Damon. Unless the Yankees re-sign him, if he ends up looking for a job late and the Cubs haven't filled out the outfield I wouldn't mind him signing to play RF for a year and lead off with Fuku staying in CF.

Bay Giants - If this team could score a few runs they would make a nice postseason push. Bedard Dodgers - A low budget move. Branyan Seattle - Seens logical to go back to the place where you had a career year Chapman Yankees - If he signs: 1)Sabathia 2)Burnett 3)*Lackey 4) Pettite 5) Chapman; the only worry would be figuring out how much ice it takes to keep Dom Parignon at the right temperature for 162. Damon Yankees - The guy can still hit and run, Cashman can justify throwing money at an aging outfielder. DeRosa Phillies - Just makes sense for one of the few teams who have money to spend and not many holes. Dye Angels - A buy low move before spring traning (presumably a one year deal). Figgins Angels - A good mentor for the young guys (what Garrett Anderson used to be). Guerrero White Sox - Not a whole lot of power in the lineup and the need for a DH. Harden Seattle - Seattle's need for pitching is scarey. Holliday Boston - People say he does not like the AL (that is where the most money will be). Lackey Yankees - To make the best rotation in baseball (barring some DL stints). Matsui Yankees - I have no idea where he would play if not the Yankees. Tejada A's - This should be A's/new team by July 31st. Valverde Phillies - Plan B.

Bay Boston 14 - they know you can get away with bad defense in LF and get him a lot cheaper than Holliday Bedard Seattle 4 - I could see him and Harden flipping teams here Branyan Mariners 10 - seemed to work last year Chapman Yankees 13 - I see the Yanks going for another lefty Damon Giants 5 - only Damon rumor I've heard so far DeRosa Phillies 11 - plenty of suitors, but they have a 3B need Dye Cardinals 3 - no idea honestly Figgins Angels 8 - plenty of suitors, but Angels have some $$ to keep him Guerrero Rangers 9 - always did well in Texas Harden Red Sox 7 - a good value Holliday Yankees 15 - Yanks, Mets, Red Sox, Angels seem like the only 4 real options Lackey Dodgers 12 - Dodgers have some $$ to spend Matsui White Sox 6 - no idea really, I had Seattle until they signed Griffey Tejada A's 2 - no idea Valverde Braves 1 - too many closers out there and not enough big market teams to spend on a closer I'll be thrilled if I get two correct this year...

15 Dero: Phillies- He is a Penn guy and fills their 3B hole and fits in the loose professional nature of their clubhouse. 14 Matsui: NYY- The Yanks love to keep Yankee Legends around and his game 6 performance solidified that. 13. Bay: BOS- His bad defense can be hid by the monster, Theo covets no-drama players and he fits that. 12: Holliday: LAA- Scoiscia type player with his grit and speed and I get the sense he would like to avoid east coast drama if he can get equal dough out of STL or LAA and the Angels can go tow to tow with the bucks the east coasters can throw around. 11: Chapman: NYY- Yanks seem to want add a big name SP and they have depth finacially and talent wise to give him $$$ and let him develop at AAA if he needs it as some think he does. 10 Figgins: LAA- A Scoiscia fave and if the Phils get Dero, I dont see anyone who will pay him what he wants. 9 Lackey: NYM- Mets will want to make a big splash and by signing Lackey they can claim they beat the Yanks at something. 8 Dye: OAK- Beane loves 1 year reunites 7 Vlad: NYM- After missing out on Bay and Holliday, Mets need a LF and Minaya likes to get the Domican stars. 6 Harden: LAD- Dodgers need an ace but cant pay for one and with his injury issues Harden's a blue light special. 5 Valverde: PHI- The CL market will take forever to develop as the good teams either have one or dont want to pay arm and leg for one and the Phils land him for a steal in Janurary. 4 Damon: STL- After losing out Holliday, the Cards decide if they cant a LF to protect Pujols they will get one who can walk and run to maxmize Pujols RBI chances. 3 Tejada: SF- Miggy liked the bay area and the Giants need a CI bat. 2 Branyan: BAL- Branyan looks like he wants to turn in his 09 campaign into his big payday and the O's are looking for CIs and make alot of odd moves. 1 Bedard: Cubs- Jimbo showed alot of interest in him in the Prior/Tejada talks (I wonder where we would have been if Jimbo pulled the trigger on Prior and Hill for Tejada and Bedard three years ago) and Bedard might be looking for an incenive laden deal Jimbo likes to offer to pitchers

    Jordan Walker just was optioned by the deadbirds. For all the talk of the Cardinals development machine, they’ve really missed on a lot of can’t miss superstars lately. Walker has struggled. Gorman has been okay. They’re already trying to push Carlson out the door. Their pitching system has been so bad they had to go out and sign basically a full rotation over the last two offseasons.

    They’ve still developed a few of those pesky solid players, like Donovan, Edman, and Nootbaar. Their two best prospect to MLB players have been Adolis and Arozarena, neither of which is a cardinal.

    I hope they never figure it out again. Cardinal failure brings me such joy.

    Is it just me or does it seem that official scorers are becoming less likely to call a misplay an error? 

     

    Guess I've hit my cranky old-man phase in life.  "I remember back in the day when an error was an error.  Official scorers have gone soft.  Now where did I put my readers?!!??"

     

    Sidenote, maybe Bellinger should be a little more careful against the Astros.  That was the series last year that a play at wall put him on the IL.

    i hated the almonte pickup, but he's 9-10 out of 12 for good outings, following a great spring.  hope he can keep it up.

    i already miss cooper, but yeah...the thin OF roster backup the team seems to want to carry probably got wisdom preference over cooper.  i could live without seeing wisdom at 3rd unless it's a blowout, though.

    Things I've been wrong about:

    -Tauchman is fine as a 4th OF. I knew that. I just want a better LH DH option and he was really the DH for us until Seiya got hurt. I'm glad Mervis is getting a chance at it. Caissie is coming for that job for sure. But Tauchman continues to be highly useful as a 4th OF with Seiya being hurt

    -I wanted Yency to go to get guys at Iowa a chance. Guys like Palencia and Sanders or RileyT. Maybe even Hodge! But Yency has been better the last two plus weeks. He did hit 96 the other day. He was 93 in Texas to open the season.

    -Leiter has his split working enough. It just needs to stay there

    -I was surprised Jed picked Wisdom over Cooper. I wonder if this happens if Seiya wasn't hurt. Wisdom has more power. Cooper is the better hitter. Jed picked Wisdom and Wisdom had an option left as well.

    -Palencia just doesn't miss enough bats. Similar to ManRod, just two yrs younger. ManRod is killing AAA for TB right now!

    Things I got right so far:

    -Hendricks. Sorry Kyle. You got paid though!

    Jed, you missed there.

    -Smyly. If Jed could've traded him before or during ST, then he should have and saved some cash.

    -Mastro.  Not a LH DH. Pinch runner. Defensive utility. Maybe he's better than Madrigal but didn't get a legit chance to prove it.

    -Luke Little is good. He's had one bad outing. That's it. Needs to get better entering with guys on base. But he needs to stay in MLB.

    -Oh yeah....Morel is doing fine at 3B! He'll get better as well!!

    South Bend just lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th on the weirdest scenario, ever.

    It's absolutely pouring rain....men on 1st and 2nd, 1out....JPatterson asks for a new ball, but no time out was called....he throws the old ball toward the dugout (not sure if it rolled out of play).....the ump declares the runners get two bases each so one run scores. Then a single up the middle ties the game.

    The rain was coming down in buckets at this point.

    hopefully his rib cage/shoulder feels better tomorrow, we just got happ back.
