I Heard the Yanks Have a New Park—Is It True?

Strange times in the news business—I figured there would be all sorts of coverage about the new Yankee Stadium, where the Cubs will conclude their Spring Training schedule tonight and Saturday afternoon. But no, not a peep, not a detail anywhere. It's like no one is paying attention to the first-ever Major League game in that billion dollar edifice. For all anyone would know, the Yanks are still going to be playing in the old park across the street.

Seriously...

Among the saturation coverage of the new yard, I found this wonderful interactive panorama on the New York Times site. It's like being there, without having to scramble for personal space with the fat guy in the Thurman Munson jersey spilling over the seat next to you. (There's a similar interactive panorama for the Mets' new park as well.)

Speaking of strange times in the news business, Ed Sherman of Crain's reports that the Daily Herald will no longer be footing the bill for sending their reporters on the road to cover the Cubs and Sox. Tough break for Bruce Miles and every discerning Cubs fan who enjoys reading him.

Ouch. Could be worse, I guess; Could be anal fissure. Is it racist that as soon as Ichiro was placed on the DL I thought of a Kaz Matsui injury?

I'll loan you Fred Lewis for Kuroda since you don't have a CF-eligible player now. Then we can trade back when Ichiro comes off the DL. Let me know if that interests you.

That's an irresponsible prediction, imo. You can kind of predict who might make it to the playoffs... to an extent... but once in the playoffs you need a measure of luck Pat Burrell.

apparently not released...

apologies for passing along the info and all the puppies that were harmed along the way.

Funny story...Steve had it on Inside the Ivy yesterday and Latham's family freaked out...whoops.

yeah that was unfortunate, said two players told him Latham was cut and neither of them saw Latham in Arizona, but apparently not the case. Maybe there was a minor injury or family issues and he was delayed or something.

As I said, he's tipped me on other stuff that all turned out to be true...oh well.

Classic Cubs from 1991 on MLB Network right now. My namesake just had a go-ahead RBI single. Hawk's at the plate right now with the bases juiced. Edit: Grand Slam, Andre Dawson. Sweet.

looks like MLB and Yahoo teamed up and can track the players on your fantasy team while watching the game with the new player. They had a tracker with MLB Mosaic, but you had to manually adjust the players.

    AZ Phil:
Rookie ball (ACL) starts on May 4th. Do yo think Ramon and Rosario (maybe Delgado) stay in Mesa for the month of May, then go to MB if all goes "solid"?

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.
