No, the Gagne is Not Always Greener

Something to distract from tonight's unpleasantness in Cincinnati:

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Doug Melvin has no plans to unseat Eric Gagne as Brewers closer. A quick comparison:

Gagne also has a WHIP of 1.7 and opponents are hitting .382 against him. Wood's numbers are 0.87, .189.

And the Brewers don't have Carlos Marmol as a Plan B.

So once again Lou puts Felix Pie in versus the most difficult of righties. Over the weekend, he got the start versus Adam Wainwright, but sat versus Lohse and Wellemeyer. Tonight he gets Johnny Cueto. It's tough being a rookie on Lou's bad side. Ramirez sits another day and Soto and DeRosa flip spots in the lineup.

Speaking of lineup construction, Dusty reminds us why we all grew tired of him. Griffey and Dunn are both struggling right now, but Dunn still is maintaining a 375 OBP versus Griffey's 310; naturally you bat Dunn 6th.

Sure would be nice to get the sour taste of last night's lost out of our mouths with a win tonight, preferably of the blowout variety.

Cubs Hits Of The Week (4/28 Through 5/4)

The five hits that did the most to enhance the Cubs' chance of winning during the past. not terribly successful week against the teams we'll have to beat if we want to take the division, as measured by FanGraphs' Win Probability Added (WPA):

#5 Big Hit: Tuesday, v. the Brewers, 7th inning — The opener of the Cubs' three-game series with the Brewers is getting out of hand when Mike Fontenot hits a two-out, bases-clearing double that brings the home team to within two runs at 9-7. WPA .133

Before we examine left field, I remind you to check out and vote on center field and right from this weekend if you missed it. As for the left fielders, I think it's an intriguing group and something that should really test the "homer" vote that's been going around in the previous installments. I think Soriano is as good as they get out there in the division, but he seems to be quickly falling out of fans' good graces as of late.

Let's see how it breaks down...
