Ouch - Cahill's in town! Hope to see Dex and Soler this afternoon, weather permitting. Edwards didn't get Conforto out last night but Nathan did on Saturday night to end an inning.

LaStella (3B), Bryant (RF), Rizzo, Zobrist (2B), Contreras (LF), Hayward (CF), Russell, Montero, Arrieta

I. Hate. The. Mets. They know they can't hit Familia -- they should just take pitches and see if they can get walked. Bryant chasing on 1-0 was really bad. Kris -- just like in NY -- make him throw you Strike 1 before you swing.

And Familia is saving all his blown saves for October. What a fool! Rondon is wisely spreading out his blown saves and losses throughout the season - a much wiser plan. He's sneaky like that.

Too many missed opportunities early -- they left a lot of runs out there. It may have been a bad thing that Javy was safe on the bunt. 2nd/3rd one out takes away the force at home and makes a squeeze a viable option.

Ya know, I get the people that say, "it happens" and shit but for a team with post-season dreams, ya just gotta be better with bases loaded and no outs, bottom of the 9th.

Really, I'm just happy they look like the old Cubs again and not the late June early July Cubs. Hard to ask for a win on a night that Rizzo takes his first ever 4Ks, Bryant misplays a run-scoring ball in RF, Russell screws up on the base paths, and Rondon throws Rene Rivera a first-pitch meatball in the 9th.

It's not voodoo, it's kryptonite. A good sinker is kryptonite to Bryant, since he feeds on low pitches (but not quite that low). The Cubs might have gotten to Famiglia if Bryant hadn't come up in the inning, or even if he had just struck out. Famiglia threw zero strikes to Bryant in three pitches, and two strikes to Szczur out of six.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
