Morning baseball!
Hammel was a stud his last time out, giving up 1 ER over 6.2 and striking out 11 to get the (5-1) win in Miami. He currently leads the majors with his sparkling .90 WHIP. (Not to be confused with our own misterwhipple.) Zimmerman (11-31 with a HR) has the best numbers against him. Harper is 0-10.
Joe Ross is making his MLB debut. He was drafted by SD in the 1st round of the 2011 draft and came to WAS in the three-team Myers-Souza deal last December. In 9 games for AA-Harrisburg so far, he was 2-2 win a 2.81 ERA and striking out more than one an inning. His fastball is in the 91-94 range.
The Cubs are now 11th in the league in scoring and have -6 run differential. That’s not the way to make it to the playoffs.
In better news, Carlito is right: Anthony Rizzo is good at baseball. With runners in scoring position, he is hitting .381/.517/.762. To update WISCGRAD’s projections, last night’s performance puts him on pace for 34 HR and 104 RBIs.
Go Cubs!
